Stained Glass Biscuits

Stained glass biscuits are a great way to make your treats look more colourful and they are also perfect for serving on platters. Some people however choose to hang stained glass biscuits on holiday trees on which the biscuits will look very ornamental.

Stained glass –basic biscuit dough

Typically, stained glass biscuits are made with basic biscuit dough that along with some candy mixtures can be prepared according to a definite recipe. The good news is that these recipes are easy to follow and making the biscuits is a relatively straightforward task. Be sure to make use of basic recipes as these are easier to follow and that means that anyone that knows how to bake will be able to make stained glass biscuits in less than half an hour.

Buy premixed biscuit dough

The best way to make stained glass biscuits is by going out and purchasing some premixed biscuit dough from any supermarket. In addition, be sure to buy a handful or more of hard candy in different colours. You should also have some backing parchment available and in addition have some aluminium foil handy that along with plastic bags (quart sized and with secured zip tops) will help you make your stained glass biscuits; you should also have a rolling pin available.

How to create the biscuit?

To create your stained glass biscuits, you should take the dough and allow it to reach room temperature as then it becomes easier to work on the dough. Take a small amount of the dough and roll it into a desired shape and ensure that it is not thicker than ¼ of an inch. Put some of it in the parchment paper and placed it on the flat surface of a good baking sheet. You can create different shapes for your biscuits.

Next, take the hard candy and empty into different plastic bags and keep each different coloured hard candy in different bags. With a rolling pin you can crush the hard candy pieces till they become small sized slivers. The candy should be crushed to a very fine state.

After pulverising the hard candy take the openings in the stained glass biscuits and fill them with it. Be sure to use a single colour for every biscuit though it is also possible to use various colours for a single biscuit. Next, take the biscuits and bake them in an oven that has been preheated at 375 degrees Fahrenheit and allow the biscuits to bake for between eight and ten minutes.

Take the baking sheet and take it out of the oven after the stained glass biscuits have turned to a golden brown colour. Now, you can allow your biscuits to cool down before lifting them out of the baking sheet. You must also take the biscuits and remove the foil form them which can be done with the help of a spatula.

Some people prefer using their stained glass biscuits as ornaments and if you wish to do this, then make sure of using a chopstick to punch holes in the dough’s top before putting it in for baking. This will allow you to then place ribbon or yarn through the holes so that you can hang your ornamental stained glass biscuits on your holiday tree.
